I learned a lot about writing from this class and I found this sheet to be very helpful. One of the most important writing techniques I learned in this class was how to write a good outline; in high school, I just wrote whatever came to mind, which meant my papers were disorganized and a little chaotic. However, in ENG 110 I learned the importance of organizing my thoughts before I start to draft a paper, which I think has really improved my writing. I also began highlighting my thesis, claims and analysis throughout my papers to make sure I’m supporting my thesis. This has been one of the most important tactics for me, and helped me come up with stronger arguments that back up my thesis better. I believe my papers have gotten better throughout the semester, and that is thanks to all the new brainstorming, drafting and revision techniques I have learned in this class. I wish I had known these techniques last semester when I was taking a paper-heavy anthropology course; knowing even some of the drafting and revision techniques would have improved my anthropology papers a lot. I’m definitely planning on keeping this sheet for future papers.
